T&D Sensor Networks

We are proud to offer T&D logger-sensor networks.  These systems work on the basis of remote logging and sensing units connected to a central data collection monitor.  The systems consists of a network of individual temperature, humidity or sensor/voltage loggers at specific locations.

Basic Temperature Logger RTR-51 Remote Temperature Probe Logger RTR-52 Remote Humidity Probe Logger RTR-53

These are combined with our unique RTR-57C Data Collector working in combination with a PC computer.  The Data Collector can be used alone or in combination with the PC for monitoring critical limits and/or collecting data for trend analysis, alarm purposes or other monitoring functions.

The heart of the system is the RTR-57C Data Collector (shown in the middle, above).  Individual loggers can be queried by groups (as indicated above), and up to 3,840 units can be registered to report to a single RTR-57C Data Collector unit.  The RTR-57C is connected to a PC computer that can be used to subsequently store and further process data collected from individual units.

The benefits of this system compared to standard sensor networks are numerous:

Function T&D System Other Types of Sensor Networks
Data Security Each sensing location is a logger, so a separate backup of data is assured. Sensor locations have no recording function, so data collection failures mean no backup.
Sensor Flexibility Logger sensor types can be humidity, temperature or any sensor type that can produce a voltage output.  Pulse and events can also be recorded.  So, users can choose from thousands of inputs. Sensor types are limited in most systems and are custom fabricated.
Communication Integrity If communications interruption occurs, data is safe. Communication interruptions mean lost data.
Programming Flexibility Each location can be programmed to have different recording intervals and upper and lower ranges. Non-logging sensors are not programmable.
System Cost System can be purchased and integrated by user; no system installation costs are charged, just individual hardware purchases.  Software is flexible and free. System cost embeds installation and integration charges in addition to hardware and software costs.
System Maintenance Battery packs allow unattended monitoring for 2.5 years at each logger location and can be remotely checked.  Monitoring locations are user-serviceable by standard replacements. Sensor locations do not indicate battery problems and are usually custom integrated and calibrated.  This requires an expensive service call to the system integrator.

One convenient way to set up a system is to have groups that are designated by frequency of monitoring.  Critical functions can be grouped so that they are monitored on a frequent basis; other, more routine functions can be monitored for trends on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Call us to discuss how to set up your system.  We provide expertise to advise you on setting up these systems, but never charge for system setup or integration.  We sell system components and provide support for software and hardware.

CheckPoint Sensor Network Technology

We offer a highly competent standard wireless monitoring network designed to ensure maintenance of temperature and other environmental variables in a variety of different applications: processing plants,  institutional and commercial food preparation, cold storage, retail and food service.  Global Sensors CheckPoint monitoring is state of the art, and specifically designed for real challenges in a variety of different locations.

The system is built on the 900 MHz Frequency Hopping Technology which provides redundant data transmission for reliable communication from every sensor. 900 MHz is an unlicensed frequency range and the Frequency Hopping technology will cause no interference with other 900 MHz devices or any other wireless devices operating at other frequencies.

The program works with Windows 2000 or XP Professional operating system, and uses SQL, a very stable database engine capable of supporting multiple users simultaneously sharing the program over a computer network. A Pentium III or higher is recommended.

An unlimited number of small wireless temperature sensors can be placed anywhere within a facility or plant, and each sensor transmits the temperature data every 15 minutes to a receiver connected to the PC. The sensors can communicate even from inside an equipment, such as a refrigerator, with the door tightly shut. With the use of signal repeaters, there is virtually no limit to the distance of communication from the sensors so that the system can monitor a facility of any size.

Global Sensors CheckPoint Probes

All probes are NIST traceable and serialized, and many different types of temperature probes are available for a wide variety of applications and equipment types:

  • Rugged waterproof probes for wash-downs and harsh environments
  • Stainless steel piercing probes for internal product temperature
  • Cook-Chill product temperature tracking probes
  • Blast Freezer probes
  • Process water temperature probes
  • Storage trailer probes
  • Oven probes
  • Dishwasher final rinse temperature probe
  • Ultra Low temperature probes for –80 °C Freezers
  • High accuracy probes for laboratory applications
  • Snap-calibration probes for easy re-calibration certification
  • Air-pressurized freezers probes
  • Water bath probes
  • Incubator probes
  • Glycol solution temperature probe

Almost any type of probe can be adapted for remote monitoring with central alarming and data-basing of the information.

Global Sensors CheckPoint Software

The heart of this system is a highly adaptable software that can be configured to give you the data handling you need for your specific operation.

Global Sensors CheckPoint Software provides key features that set it apart from other monitoring systems:

  • Alert suppression by time and day
  • Alert email can be sent to multiple recipients by equipment name
  • Automatic data back up
  • Alert escalation
  • Automatic alert if an equipment is not turned off after a specified number of hours, regardless of start time.
  • Automatic daily, weekly or monthly report printing
  • Complete record keeping of all corrective action and user comments for all temperature alerts
  • Scheduled preventive maintenance and task reminder alerts
  • Integrated HACCP corrective action notification
  • Signature verification for tracing of data authenticity
  • Time-based graphing
  • User-friendly interface - one or two hours of on-line training for a working knowledge of the entire system

What's A Sensor Network?
Sensor networks are systems of sensors like temperature, event counters (opening and closing of doors) and other important data collection functions.  Each of the sensor locations is connected by radio frequency (wireless) to a central computer that stores the data.  Most sensor networks have alert functions that will call you on the phone, operate a pager, send you an email message, or set off an alarm if critical preset alarm thresholds have been exceeded, or if the data in any definable way indicates a problem.

Can I Install it Myself?

It depends.  Our T&D systems are generally user-installable. Some of our other sensor networks are too complicated for users to install.  Please call for details.

HACCP

A sensor network is the ideal way to automate your HACCP program for retail food operations and processing.  Go paperless, wireless and save a lot of money while conforming to all of your HACCP requirements.
