The T & D Data Collector

The T & D Data Collector is the heart of the T &
D system. The RTR-57C gives you a high quality graphic display of
collected data. Each LCD screen plotted graph displays the data for one
channel and can be easily scrolled across by using the handy operation
dial or the buttons on the front of the main unit.
The
RTR-57C captures data from any of the remote logger units and gives you
the data you want in an easy-to-understand format--it eliminates the
need for a PC for quick monitoring and reproduces the function of
graphic paper recorders. The illustration at right shows the graphical
capabilities of the RTR-57C: When there are two channels of data, you
can switch channels by pushing in the operation dial for 1.5 seconds.
By making upper and lower limit settings on the
RTR-57C you can check the recorded data as it is collected for
irregularities and the results will be displayed. If an RTR-51,52,53 or
RVR-52 unit has already been set with its own upper and lower limits,
those values will take precedence over the values set in the RTR-57C.

The data capacity for the RTR-57C is 260,000
readings. That is a large enough capacity to collect data from 16 units
of RTR-51,52,53 or RVR-52 at full capacity (16,000 readings). It can
also collect and process up to 250 data recording sessions.
Besides controlling the collection of data, the
RTR-57C can manage various recording settings such as: Recording Mode,
Recording Interval, Programmed Recording Settings and Immediate Record.
This enables the user to easily control various recording settings for a
variety of models on-site without the need for a computer. When battery
life goes low, the RTR-57C backup function first displays a battery life
warning and then goes into automatic sleep mode. Thereby, the main unit
cannot be turned on and all data will be safely stored without loss.

The RTR-57C takes advantage of our exclusive
circuitry design to bring over 100 operating hours worth of power on
only 2 AAA alkaline batteries (in normal usage). Energy efficiency is
further enhanced with our Auto Power Off Function that turns off the
main unit when not in use. Moreover, the ergonomic design permits
day long usage without fatigue.

T & D Wireless Loggers
T&D wireless loggers
consist of four basic models: temperature with an internal sensor
(RTR-51), temperature with an external sensor (RTR-52), humidity with an
external sensor (RTR-53) and voltage model (RVR-52) which can be used
with a voltage-producing sensor of the user's choice. The RTR-51,52,53
and RVR-52 give you 15 recording intervals (1 second to 1 hour) to
choose from. Each unit allows you two choices of recording method: One
time method when 16,000 readings have been reached, it automatically
overwrites oldest data. One RTR-51 or RTR-52 unit can record up to
16,000 readings.
If set at a one hour
recording interval that gives you 666 days or almost two years of
recording. Using our specially designed low energy consumption circuit
these units can run on one lithium battery for up to six months of
continued use. In addition, by using our specially designed optional
large capacity battery pack, the unit can used continuously for up to
two and a half years. No need to worry about where you place it, as the
battery will allow you to measure and record over long periods of time
whether the unit is in transit or in a distant place.

Internal Sensor Logger
The
RTR-51, with internal sensor, can measure and record temperatures from
-40°F to 176°F (-40°C to 80°C). Use the RTR-51 for normal air
temperature monitoring in transit applications, or for cold room.

RTR-52/52L
External Sensor Logger
The RTR-52, with external sensor, is able to measure and record in a
range of -76°F to 311°F (-60°C to 155°C). Use the RTR-52 for extreme
temperature monitoring (autoclave, cooking, steamer, dry-ice storage,
smokehouse or other extreme condition. Use the RTR-52 for applications
where the sensor location is such that wireless communication is
hindered by metallic walls (place unit outside the wall and sensor lead
inside the walls. The external sensor is at the end of a heat and cold
resistant lead wire approximately 2 feet in length (0.6m). The unit is
easily mountable and with a battery pack that is user-serviceable. The
RTR-51 has options for a long life battery pack capable of extending
recording to well over two years.

RTR-53/53L
External Humidity Probe
Logger
RTR-53 is a combined temperature logger and humidity logger. The remote
probe allows the monitoring of confined spaces where there is no
possibility for mounting of a logger unit. Deployment of the humidity
sensor on a removable probe lead is beneficial, as humidity probes have
a limited service life, and users can keep a spare in stock when the
sensor needs replacement or recalibration. The external sensor is at the
end of a heat and cold resistant lead wire 3 feet in length (3m). The
unit is easily mountable and with a battery pack that is
user-serviceable. The RTR-51 has options for a long life battery pack
capable of extending recording to well over two years. Be sure to

RVR-52/52L
Voltage Logger
RVR-52 measures and records input voltages from 0 to 6.5VDC. You can
choose to record the voltage measurement as the instantaneous value for
each recording interval span or as the average value for each recording
interval span. The average value for recording intervals under 15
seconds will be calculated as the average of the measurements from every
1 second. The average for intervals over 20 seconds will be calculated
as the average of the measurements from every 2 seconds. The RVR-52 data
collection capability represents an important signal conditioning
function that improves accuracy and data significance:

Sophisticated signal conditioning is built in to this
logger model. Using the "equal interval" timed method is the
simplest approach, and is best for determination of trends in the data.
Using
the "average value" method is the simplest approach, and is best for
smoothing of data where noise input is significant. RVR-52 can also be
used with data producing devices that output in pulses (wind speed
generators, for example) or can simply be used as an event marker
(opening and closing of refrigerator doors, for example). We can supply

Software
T&D Recorder for Windows is a free software package for purchasers of
matching T & D recorder products.
Upon opening T & D Recorder, the launcher will appear as a set of
icons. By clicking on an icon, the graph and / or communication displays
for that type of unit will appear. For each icon, it is possible to
change the settings to hide or show that icon, making it possible to
hide unnecessary icons. It is also possible to display the icons in the
main window in a smaller reduced size.
When in reduced size, besides clicking on an icon to open a graph or a
communication display for that type of unit, right clicking will open a
menu. It is also possible to move the icons by dragging the launcher to
a different place on the screen.

T & D Sensor Networks
We have configured many T&D logger-sensor networks. These systems work
on the basis of remote logging and sensing units connected to a central
data collection monitor. The systems consists of a network of
individual temperature, humidity or sensor/voltage loggers at specific
locations.

The basic logger units are are combined with our unique RTR-57C Data
Collector working in combination with a PC computer. The Data Collector
can be used alone or in combination with the PC for monitoring critical
limits and/or collecting data for trend analysis, alarm purposes or
other monitoring functions.
The heart of the system is the RTR-57C Data Collector (shown in the
middle, above). Individual loggers can be queried by groups (as
indicated above), and up to 3,840 units can be registered to report to a
single RTR-57C Data Collector unit. The RTR-57C is connected to a PC
computer that can be used to subsequently store and further process data
collected from individual units.

Questions and Answers About Wireless
Networks Using T & D Loggers
What's A Sensor Network?
Sensor networks are systems of sensors like temperature, event counters
(opening and closing of doors) and other important data collection
functions. Each of the sensor locations is connected by radio frequency
(wireless) to a central computer that stores the data. Most sensor
networks have alert functions that will call you on the phone, operate a
pager, send you an email message, or set off an alarm if critical preset
alarm thresholds have been exceeded, or if the data in any definable way
indicates a problem.
Can I Install it Myself?
It depends. Our T&D systems are generally user-installable. Some of our
other sensor networks are too complicated for users to install. Please
call for details.
What about HACCP?
A sensor network is the ideal way to automate your HACCP program for
retail food operations and processing. Go paperless, wireless and save
a lot of money while conforming to all of your HACCP requirements.
Governmental authorities in the U.S. will soon be implementing HACCP
requirements for retail food establishments. The only clear and
cost-effective way to deal with the requirements of retail HACCP is a
sensor network. Find out how you can be prepared for this coming
requirement.
Can I put a sensor inside a metal-lined
cooler or walk–in?
Yes. You can place the sensor anywhere inside a reach–in or walk–in
cooler, or any other type of equipment, shut the door and the
temperature data will transmit out.
Is there a limit to the size of a facility or the
number of temperature points?
No. Using the reader, you can collect data from a very large number of
data collection point...more than any one facility will be using.
Do I need to calibrate the T & D loggers on a
regular basis?
The need for re–calibration depends on your application. If you are a
foodservice or processing operation, your HACCP may only require your
in-house accuracy validation. A laboratory may require an annual
calibration certificate, which we can supply. If an annual certificate
is required, then we can provide special sensors where only the probes
can be easily replaced so that the re-calibration job is quick and
simple.
We plan on moving in the next few months or a
year. How difficult is it to move the system?
Remember, it’s wireless! Just collect all the sensors, unplug the
receiver and repeaters and take them to your new location. Re-install at
the new location, and the system is back in operation. If you need more
sensors, you can add as many sensors as you need in the same system.
